Barcamp Orlando (cont.)
by RJ Salicco on Sep.25, 2007, under Commentary
I attended Barcamp Orlando for a few hours this past Sunday. There was definitely a pretty nice turnout and there were definitely some interesting topics on the board. The only thing I would complain about is the venue. It was nice to have a full bar at my fingertips but it would have made the even more comfortable if there was a bit more room to maneuver and hang out. All in all, it was well planned and the community that made it out to support the event will in turn be the community that will help it grow. The event drew more of a group of technology innovators and experimentalists rather than a group a hardcore enterprise developers and system administrators. Either way, I look forward to attending the event again in the future.
Web Standards
by RJ Salicco on Sep.21, 2007, under Development
There are numerous reasons why many industries have standards in place. Standards create a benchmark and a level playing field for everyone to work towards. Web development is in desperate need of global standards that help companies and developers build more cost effective Web sites and applications that can exist longer on the Web. Although I am an advocate of change and technology growth, the Web community, consisting of browser companies and developers, needs to work towards implementing Web technology in a common manner.
